is a great way to get the feel of the "real" Cuba. Holguin is close to Guardalavaca, Gibara and many fine beaches in Las Tunas. Day trips to Banes and Puerto Padre can also provide many interesting hours for your visit. Lizzett's Casa can be the central hub for your stay in Cuba.

International flights are available direct to Holguin.

Please note: The US Dollar is no longer accepted at par in Cuba. The Cuban government now charges a 10% premium on transactions in US Dollars. Travelers should bring Euros or Canadian dollars to avoid this charge. When in Cuba, you will use the

Cuban Convertible Peso (CUC) which is priced slightly higher than the US Dollar.

Another new development is that all credit card purchases are charged a premium of 11.84%. (US bank based credit cards and American Express Cards are not honored at all). Cash (or travelers cheques) is king in Cuba.

Confused? Bring Euros or Canadian dollars (or travelers cheques in those currencies) and convert to Cuban Pesos once in Cuba.

As of January 2007, 1 Cuban Convertible Peso equals 1.32 Canadian Dollars.
